Review of TEDx Collier Heights at Frederick Douglass H. S. Atlanta, Georgia

On Saturday, August 17th 2019,  I step back into time and walked from the H.E. Holmes MARTA Station to the High School that I became a graduate about 30 years ago in my modern day village of Collier Heights located in Atlanta, Georgia USA.

Amazed of how a 'No Windows'  Institution had transformed into the appearance of a small college  'With Windows' today, I was impressed with Frederick Douglass High School (FDHS).

Still even more impressing was when I entered the Dr. Lester W. Butts Auditorium for the first time to experience ' TEDX Collier Heights '.

It was a honor to see the Director of the Atlanta Preservation Center serving Guests in the lobby along with a diverse group of educated individuals awaiting to enter the Auditorium.

At first glance, when I heard of the length of the program, I realized that I could not stay.  However, prior to leaving,  Odie Donald (FDHS Alumni) - Manager of  ' City of South Fulton ' ,  Dr. Nicole Garner - Financial Consultant, Dr, taj anwar baoll - Medical Professional, and Zak Wallace - Songwriter & Restaurant Owner greatly lifted my spirits.

I was enthralled, flabbergasted and motivated as I left early.  I encountered Ann Hill-Bond - Curator in my attempt to sneak out and gave her a hug while saying, ' Outstanding Ann '.

Having not the opportunity to see the completion of the event, I believe it was successful in showing proof that ' Atlanta Influences Everything  '.

TEDx Collier Heights Is Coming To An Atlanta Community

Recently, I had the honor of talking with the Licensee Lead Organizer & Curator Ann Hill-Bond of this particular event.  Below, are questions that I asked her:

CHenryAdams: Ann, You are a Multi-Faceted Lady, a Mother of three children, Business Lady, Farmer, Journalist for Atlanta Voice and Community Activist.  How did you all select Collier Heights for a World-renown Ted Talk Event?

Ann Hill-Bond:  Ok, we selected Collier Heights Community for a Ted X based on the fact that we wanted to bring the diversity of Collier Heights to the forefront from the house to the influence of the people that has on the City of Atlanta, but also on a global scale.  That's why we chose the theme, ' Atlanta Influence Everything '.

CHenryAdams: So, what can the Collier Heights Community expect from this notoriety?

Ann Hill-Bond:  I don't know, whatever it want.  At this point, you get to make your decision after you come and experience it.  What you take from it, is what you take.  How you move forward in life is how you move forward. I would like the experience to share thoughts & ideas of how we have proven capacity to drive culture and economics in our society on a local, national and global level.

CHenryAdams:  Who will be the featured Speakers at this TEDx Collier Heights Event?


Ann Hill-Bond: We will have Richard Dunn, a native of Atlanta, who is the grandson of the Founder of the Atlanta Voice.  Lisa Cunningham, who is in the Film Industry and a native of Southwest Atlanta.  Dr. Nicole Garner, a native of Atlanta.  Bem Joiner, a Culture Curator in Atlanta, Ga. Dr. Taj Anwar Baoll, a graduate of Brooker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Ga and  Odie Donald, City Manager of the City of South Fulton, Georgia.
